Consejos para conservar tu jamón ibérico en casa

Tips for preserving your Iberian ham at home

Has it ever happened to you that when you have bought a ham and have it at home, sometimes it does not taste as good as in a restaurant?

It is probably because you have not followed these simple steps adapted to any type of home, any space or any temperature.

In this article we have compiled the most frequent questions that you ask us about how to preserve and maintain one of our pieces, whether it is ham or shoulder.

How to preserve the ham before opening it?

Surely you have ever been given a ham and you want to reserve it for a special occasion such as a meal with friends, a birthday or to impress your father-in-law when he comes to eat at home.

If so, you have to know that the ham can last 2 to 3 months without losing some quality. This is because when you order your piece from us, we deliver it to you with the optimal maturation time.

The only thing you have to do in this case is store it in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight . It couldn't be easier, although we have something a bit more "pro" which would be to remove the wrapping and hang it (if you want us to include the tomiza or rope in the order, tell us in the comments).

How to keep it once opened?

And here comes the precious moment of tasting. We explain it to you in 4 steps:

  1. Place your piece in a ham holder
  2. When you start to "peel the ham" reserve 5 or 6 initial pieces of bacon
  3. Keep stripping away until you get to the meat and enjoy.
  4. If you have managed not to eat all the ham at once, place those pieces of bacon that you have reserved before on the cut of ham.

Soon on the blog we will bring you more content related to cutting ham and we will explain that the phrase "I don't have space to have a ham at home" is not a good excuse.
