Has it ever happened to you that when you buy a ham and have it at home, sometimes it doesn't taste as good as in a restaurant?
It is probably because you have not followed these simple steps adapted to any type of home, any space or any temperature.
In this article we have compiled the most frequently asked questions you ask us about how to preserve and maintain one of our pieces, whether it is ham or shoulder.
How to preserve ham before opening it?
Surely you have ever been given a ham and you want to save it for a special occasion such as a meal with friends, a birthday or to impress your father-in-law when he comes to eat at home.
If so, you should know that the ham can last 2 to 3 months without losing any quality. This is because when you order your piece from us, we deliver it to you with the optimal maturation time.
The only thing you have to do in this case is store it in a cool, dry place out of the sun . It couldn't be easier, although we have a suggestion to make to give it even more care: if you receive the ham in a cloth cover or some kind of wrapping, we recommend removing it to allow the ham to oxygenate and prevent any kind of mold from appearing. And then, the best way for it to 'breathe' is if it is hung (if you want us to include the rope or string in the order, tell us in the comments).
How to preserve it once opened?
And here comes the precious moment of tasting. We explain it to you in 4 steps:
- Place your piece on a ham holder
- When you start to "peel the ham" reserve 5 or 6 initial pieces of bacon
- Keep removing everything until you get to the meat and enjoy.
- If you have managed not to eat the whole ham at once, place the pieces of bacon that you reserved earlier on the cut of ham.
We will soon bring you more content related to ham cutting on the blog and we will explain that the phrase "I don't have space to have a ham at home" is not a good excuse.
