Consejos para conservar tu jamón ibérico en casa

Tips for preserving your Iberian ham at home

Has it ever happened to you that when you've bought a ham and you have it at home, sometimes it doesn't taste as good as it does in a restaurant?

It's probably because you haven't followed these simple steps, which are adaptable to any type of home, any space, or any temperature.

In this article, we've compiled the most frequently asked questions about how to store and maintain one of our pieces, whether it's a ham or a shoulder.

How to store ham before opening it?

Surely you've been given a ham as a gift and you want to save it for a special occasion, such as a meal with friends, a birthday, or to impress your father-in-law when he comes over for dinner.

If so, you should know that ham can last 2 to 3 months without starting to lose some quality. This is because when you order your piece from us, we deliver it to you with optimal curing time.

The only thing you have to do in this case is to store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It couldn't be easier, although we have a suggestion to make it even better: if you receive the ham with a cloth cover or any wrapping, we recommend removing it to allow the ham to breathe and prevent mold from appearing. And then, the best way for it to 'breathe' is if it is hung (if you want us to include the rope in the order, please let us know in the comments).

How to store it once opened?

And here comes the precious moment of tasting. We explain it in 4 steps:

  1. Place your piece on a ham stand.
  2. When you start to "peel the ham," set aside 5 or 6 initial pieces of fat.
  3. Keep removing everything until you reach the meat and enjoy.
  4. If you have managed not to eat all the ham at once, place those pieces of fat that you previously reserved on the cut surface of the ham.

Soon on the blog, we will bring you more content related to cutting ham and we will explain that the phrase "I don't have space to keep a ham at home" is not a good excuse.
